It is with great sadness and sympathy that the Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to Hungary announces the passing away of former Ambassador Dr. Erich Kussbach.

Erich Kussbach was born in Budapest 1931. In 1956 he emigrated to Austria, finished his studies at the University of Vienna and the Yale University and became a highly respected Austrian diplomat.

From 1993 to 1996 he served as Austrian Ambassador to Hungary, and later from 2005 to 2013 as Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to Hungary.

Erich Kussbach passed away in Mödling near Vienna on July 10, 2026, aged 95 and was buried on July 17 at the Central Cemetery of Vienna.

Ambassador Heinz Hafner attended the funeral and paid his respects to his late predecessor and his family.
